The pot smokers’ holiday - 4/20 - is approaching (it’s April 20 by the way), and so here are 10 movies associated with getting high. Watch the trailers and take the poll at the end.
1) Cheech & Chong’s Up in Smoke
A drug-ingesting pair - unemployed pot-smoking slacker and amateur drummer, Anthony Stoner, and his kindred spirit, Pedro de Pacas - hit the road together.
2) Pineapple Express
Seth Rogen is stoner Dale Denton, whose enjoyment of a rare strain of marijuana leads to his and his dealer (James Franco) going on the lam.
3) Inherent Vice
In an Los Angeles beach community, private detective Larry "Doc" Sportello (played by Joaquin Phoenix) works in a smoky haze of marijuana. When Shasta, a former lover, arrives out of the blue to plead for his help, Doc must navigate a psychedelic world of characters and cops to solve a missing-persons case.
Mark Wahlberg plays a little boy who made a wish that Ted (Seth MacFarlane), his beloved teddy bear, would come alive. Thirty years later, foul-mouthed, pot-smoking Ted is still John's constant companion, much to the chagrin of Lori (Mila Kunis), John's girlfriend.
5) Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure
Bill and Ted are high school who travel by time machine to various points in history, returning with important figures to help them complete their final history presentation.
6) Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle
Nerdy accountant Harold and his irrepressible friend, Kumar, get stoned watching television and find themselves obsessed by a commercial for White Castle. Convinced there must be one nearby, the two set out on a late-night journey that takes them deep into New Jersey.
7) The Big Lebowski
Jeff Lebowski (played by Jeff Bridges), is a laid-back burnout who insists on being called “the Dude.” He happens to have the same name as a millionaire whose wife owes a lot of dangerous people a whole bunch of money, sending him spiraling into the Los Angeles underworld.
8) Fast Times at Ridgemont High
The iconic movie about high school features Jeff Spicoli (Sean Penn), who lives for surfing and being stoned.
9) Reefer Madness
Intended to be shown to parents to teach them about the dangers of marijuana abuse, the 1936 movie found a popular audience as a cult film.
10) Half Baked
When a friend gets arrested for killing a New York City police horse by feeding it junk food, three stoners are forced to raise bail by selling pot stolen from a pharmaceutical lab.
