Dumb and Dumber To

Rating: PG-13 for crude and sexual humor, partial nudity, language and some drug references

What it’s about: Harry and Lloyd, 20 years older but no wiser, make a road trip to find a daughter Harry never knew he had.

The kid attractor factor: Diaper jokes, flatulence gags, slapstick and Jim Carrey

Good lessons/bad lessons: “There is always a way,” and wisdom doesn’t necessarily come with age.

Violence: Slapstick injuries, no blood is spilled on camera.

Language: Some profanity

Sex: Discussed, in the most puerile way

Drugs: Drug jokes

Parents’ advisory: Juvenile, coarse and crude, with more bodily function gags than sexual ones. OK for 10-and-up.

Beyond the Lights

Rating: PG-13 for sexual content including suggestive gestures, partial nudity, language and thematic elements

What it’s about: A rising pop star attempts suicide, and falls for the guard who saves her.

The kid attractor factor: A realistic depiction of the highly sexualized, ruthlessly commercial world of hip-hop and R&B.

Good lessons/bad lessons: You can’t become a soul singer if you lose your soul.

Violence: Fisticuffs, attempted suicide

Language: Some profanity

Sex: Costumes, grinding music videos and airplane coupling leave little to the imagination.

Drugs: Lots of alcohol consumption

Parents’ advisory: Suitable for 13-and-up. Quite sexual for a PG-13 rated film, but if they’re old enough to watch a Nicki Minaj music video …
