Crest Theatre screening Oscar-nominated shorts

Sacramento’s Crest Theatre (1013 K St.) will show throughout much of February the short films vying for Academy Awards at the Feb. 28 Oscars ceremony. This weekend, Part A of the documentary program (split into two programs) will screen at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, and part B at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6. Animated shorts will screen at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6. They include the 11-minute Chilean film “Historia de un oso” (English title: “Bear Story”), in which an older bear tells his life story through a mechanical diorama. Cost: $13-$20.
