“Penelope: A Rescue Story” is one of 19 official selections of the third annual Animal Film Festival in Grass Valley on Saturday, Feb. 27. The documentary short by Duncan Skiles tells the story of how one couple saved a chicken from a religious ritual, but not all the films are of such a serious nature, say organizers from the Center for Animal Protection & Education. Each film tells a story about animals and the issues they face. The day session begins at 10 a.m., evening session at 6 p.m., at the Center for the Arts, 314 W. Main St., Grass Valley, $11.50-$22 at Eventbrite; 831-336-4695, www.animalfilmfestival.org.
