Like the lines for Black Friday outside the mall and a roaring yule log in the fire place, the Jingle Ball concert from 107.9 The End radio has endured as an annual Sacramento tradition. But this holiday season, the Jingle Ball is taking a more electronic bent than ever.
The Chainsmokers, a chart-topping DJ duo who’ve emerged as a pop juggernaut, will headline The Jingle Ball at Cal Expo on Dec. 2. Other acts in this glow stick-friendly concert event include Dillon Francis, a leading DJ, producer and personality within the electronic dance community, and the sister duo Krewella.
The Chainsmokers have been rolling steady on the Billboard charts, with its hit “Closer” (featuring Halsey) in the midst of an eight week run at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Its other hits include “Selfie,” “Roses” and “Don’t Bring Me Down.”
The Jingle Ball generally has taken on a more standard Top 40 feel over the years, with such past headliners as Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Fall Out Boy and Flo Rida. This current line-up reflects the increased drawing power of electronic music acts on the concert industry and around the mainstream music charts as well. Cal Expo is geared to hold upwards of 9,000 for this edition of Jingle Ball, which will be an 18 and older event.
