Franz Ferdinand, a Grammy-nominated post-punk revival group, is one of the scheduled headlining acts during the free outdoor Concerts in the Park series, which begins May 4 at Cesar Chavez Plaza in downtown Sacramento.
The Scottish indie rock band, formed in 2002 and based in Glasgow, is scheduled to appear May 18, the Downtown Sacramento Partnership announced on Thursday. The band embarks on a worldwide tour beginning Sunday, and has a concert planned May 17 at the Fox Theatre in Oakland.
“We’re thrilled Concerts in the Park continues to attract internationally admired artists like Franz Ferdinand while staying true to our community and providing a stage for our hometown favorites,” said Sureena Johl, Downtown Sacramento Partnership events manager, in a statement.
More than 500 artists have played on the Concerts in the Park stage over the past 26 years, including local favorites and nationally touring artists Cake, Tesla, Deftones, The Brodys, Blackalicous, Del the Funky Homosapien and more, according to concert organizers.
