The Sacramento Music Festival strikes up the bands for the 42nd year at venues in Old Sacramento and downtown venues. No longer a festival dedicated to a single genre as it was when it began in 1974, the three-day event offers diverse acts, including Tower of Power, Gloriana, Malo, Sister Swing and the Dixie Company. Start planning now by sitting with the schedule so you’re ready for the first notes when the festival kicks off 11 a.m. May 22. Buy tickets online or starting May 21 at various spots in Old Sac. $15-$125, sacmusicfest.com.
