David Grisman will be marking this Father’s Day weekend with family even as he headlines the California Bluegrass Association’s annual festival.

Grisman regularly tours with son Samson, who handles bass and vocal duties in the David Grisman Bluegrass Experience.

The Bluegrass Experience, formed in 2004, also features Jim Nunally (guitar and vocals), Keith Little (banjo and vocals), and Chad Manning (fiddle),

In 1990 Grisman established Acoustic Disc label, which includes acoustic music, folk and bluegrass.

The mandolinist and composer also schedules time in the recording studio with what had been his quintet but now is the David Grisman Sextet.

He said festival-goers should expect a spirited bluegrass set by his Bluegrass Experience.

“I love the festival since it’s very close to my house,” he said. “Also, my daughter and her family will be coming as well.”
