Returning to the Center for the Arts is the southern Saharan band Tinariwen, a Grammy-winning group that tours the world promoting peace. The musicians are Taureg nomads that formed the band in rebel camps where they had been forced into military service. Their style – a blend of desert music, rap, funk, rock and blues – evokes the empty places in the world and addresses issues such as exile and political awakening. 8 p.m. Aug. 16, 314 W. Main St., Grass Valley. $37-$42; 530-274-8384, ext 14; www.thecenterforthearts.org
