Jello Biafra and the Guantanamo School of Medicine

Punk rock

9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14

Harlow’s

It’s easy to tether the ever-frenetic Jello Biafra to his work as frontman of the Dead Kennedys, but to do so would be a spiteful overlook of his newest project. This collection of free-wheeling punk veterans provides the ideally rough-and-tumble backdrop to Biafra’s persona: B-reel horror flick meets ticked-off street-corner activist. With Screature. Doors 8 p.m. 2708 J St., Sacramento. $15-$18. www.harlows.com

Todd Morgan & the Emblems

Rock/pop/jazz

7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14

Fair Oaks Community Clubhouse

Local crooner Todd Morgan looks about the same age as Marty McFly was when he went time traveling in “Back the Future.” Morgan likewise got trapped in the 1950s and absorbed those sounds into his affable brand of jumpy pop rock, but he visited several other decades on the way back. Morgan celebrates the release of “Sweet Pretender.” 7997 California Ave., Fair Oaks. $5. www.toddmorganandtheemblems.com

House of Vibe All Stars

Hip hop/rock/funk

11 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15

Ridgestock Expo (Nevada City)

The seemingly boundless lyricist Chali 2Na (of Ozomatli and Jurassic 5 fame) brings a touch of star power to the enigmatic House of Vibe All Stars, a full-band funk jazz and hip-hop collective rooted in Culver City. They headline the annual Ridgestock Music & Sustainability Expo, with local rock veterans Golden Shoulders, surf rockers the Mermen, and several more. 17894 Tyler Foote Crossing Road, Nevada City. $30-$35. www.ridgestock.org

Looking ahead: ‘Breast Concert Ever’ Sept. 11 at Cesar Chavez Plaza

This massive show benefiting breast cancer research features pop rockers Matt Nathanson and Mat Kearney, with others. 910 I St., Sacramento. $20. www.eventbrite.com
