A touch of maroon will join the purple reign in the Sacramento Kings’ new home.
Maroon 5, the pop-rock band best known for the hits “Moves Like Jagger” and “One More Night,” is scheduled to perform on Oct. 15, 2016, at downtown’s Golden 1 Center. The event is not expected to be the first concert held at the Golden 1 Center, but the Maroon 5 appearance will be among the venue’s initial events. The Golden 1 Center is expected to open in October 2016.
“Hosting Maroon 5 during our opening week, one of the world’s most popular acts, is a great indicator of what’s to come,” said Sacramento Kings lead owner Vivek Ranadive in a statement.
Maroon 5, fronted by “The Voice” judge Adam Levine, previously performed at the Kings’ current home, back when it was branded as Arco Arena. In 2007, the band performed to a less-than-half-capacity crowd of 7,000; it also played a show there in 2010.
Event programmers at Golden 1 Center are in the process of booking more events at the 17,500-seat facility. Live Nation is the concert promoter working with the Golden 1 Center to bring Maroon 5 to Sacramento.
In addition to concerts, the venue will host family friendly shows and other entertainment along with its usage as a sports facility. More events are expected to be announced before the end of 2015, said Juan Rodriguez, the arena’s general manager.
The arena, which is currently under construction, will have the acoustics and rigging needed to accommodate large-scale concerts and other productions, officials said.
“This new arena is going to energize an entire region with a new concert experience that will rival most markets,” said Jodi Goodman, president for Live Nation Northern California, in a statement.
American Express cardholders and Maroon 5 fan club members have access to presale tickets at noon Monday. Live Nation will also hold a ticket presale at 10 a.m. Thursday. Tickets for the general public will be released at 10 a.m. Nov. 14. Ticket prices have yet to be announced.
