It’s a tough Monday for local fans of Johnny Marr, the former guitarist for The Smiths who had a solo show scheduled for Friday at Ace of Spades. According to a press release, the remainder of Marr’s tour, which was scheduled to run through Dec. 20, was canceled due to “serious close family illness.”

"I’m really disappointed to not be able to play the shows,” said Marr, in a statement. “The touring has been so enjoyable for me and the band and the audiences have been great everywhere. If it was about just me being unwell I would've found a way to continue as I did when I broke my hand earlier in the year, but to not be there for one of my family is not right. Thank you to everyone for the kind messages. See you soon. Johnny.”

Marr was touring in support of his latest solo album, “Playland,” and there’s no word if the Sacramento show will be re-scheduled. Tickets can be refunded at point of purchase.
