The prodigiously talented young New York-based alto saxophonist Braxton Cook returns to the region Sunday for his second holiday season concert in as many years.
Cook, a finalist in the Thelonious Monk Institute Competition last year in Washington, D.C., performs globally with Christian Scott’s Quintet. Cook plays here with his band featuring Richard Sears on keyboard, Joshua Crumbly on bass, and Jonathan Pinson on drums.
At the Double Nickel Smoke House, 3443 Laguna Blvd., No. 150, Elk Grove. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the music starts at 8 p.m. Trumpeter Malcolm Stokes opens the show. VIP tickets include a reserved table for four at $25 per ticket. General admission, $20 at braxtoncook2014.eventbrite.com.
