Sacramento still needs to get through spring and whatever’s left of the El Niño rainy season, but the summer concert season is already shaping up for the California State Fair, which runs July 8-24 at Cal Expo.
The fair’s 2016 Toyota Concert Series kicks off July 8 with Salt-N-Pepa with Spinderealla, the beloved hip-hop trio known for shaking up many a wedding reception when the DJ drops “Push It.” For those whose tastes run closer to the classic rock side of the dial, look for a chance to “come sail away” with Styx (July 18). In addition, the schedule includes shows from the John Fogerty-less version of Creedence Clearwater Revival known as Creedence Clearwater Revisited (July 15) and Don Felder (July 22), former lead guitarist for The Eagles.
And what better way to work off that wine slushie than grooving to some soul and funk from Chaka Khan (July 11) and Tower of Power (July 13). Many tribute bands will also be in the mix, including Journey Revisited (July 12), Queen Nation (July 16) and Matchbox Twenty Too (July 19).
All concerts are free with fair admission, but premium seats can be purchased in the Reserved Gold Circle for an additional $12 to $20. These tickets can be purchased starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 5, through the California State Fair’s web site.
