Get ready to rock and post up in the beer garden. The popular Concerts in the Park series hits the quarter-century mark this year, with the 2016 edition running from May 6 through July 29.

These free Friday night concerts at Cesar Chavez Plaza (910 I St.) have become a Sacramento summer staple for the past 25 years. What started as a weekly showcase of the local music scene has turned into an event which draws an average 6,000 concertgoers each Friday during the series. According do the Downtown Sacramento Partnership, which manages the event, a combined 70,000 people attended Concerts in the Park in 2015.

The event has also evolved to including national acts in its programming. 2016’s non-Sacramento headliners include singer-songwriter Chuck Ragan, country artist Tyler Rich and post-hardcore jams from Chico’s Hail the Sun.

Sacramento area bands still comprise the bulk of the line-up, and includes a local DJ spinning between acts. Most of the musical bases are covered during the series, including rock, hip-hop, pop, singer-songwriters and more.
