A signature Sacramento music series is about to get an extra splash of color.
David Garibaldi, the popular performance painter, has been added to Concerts in the Park at Cesar Chavez Plaza on Friday. He joins a lineup headlined by veteran local rockers The Brodys, and also includes The J Band, Trapacana and DJ tunes from JosephONE.
Garibaldi is the kind of painter who treats a canvas like a drum kit or guitar fretboard. As music plays, Garibaldi gets jiggy with his paintbrushes and even dances, all while creating on-the-spot pieces that tend to bear an uncanny likeness to their subjects.
He’s been a featured act at NBA halftime shows. In 2007, he painted a Carlos Santana canvas at a Golden State Warriors game with the guitar master himself watching the action. Garibaldi was also a finalist in the 2012 season of “America’s Got Talent,” with the Sacramento painter and his CMYK paint/dance crew ultimately placing fourth.
