Channel 10 (KXTV) is adding reporter/anchor Lina Washington to its sports coverage team. Washington, the former sports director at NBC affiliate KGET in Bakersfield, made the announcement this week on her Instagram page.
A Phoenix native, Washington left KGET last September after 3 1/2 years at the station, including two as its sports director. It was her first job out of college.
Washington said by phone she expects to start at Channel 10 in early July, and that her role will include co-anchoring the station’s Sunday sports show and contributing to Friday night high school football coverage in the fall. A representative for Channel 10 declined to comment on personnel matters at the station.
“I’ve grown to love high school football,” Washington said. “It’s a crazy time of year, but it’s also the most exciting for me.”

A “huge NBA fan,” Washington said she decided to pursue sports broadcasting while at Arizona State, where she attended the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and participated on the dance team before graduating in 2012.
“Sports runs in my family,” Washington said. “My dad won a national championship at Notre Dame in football, I have plenty of cousins and relatives who’ve played professional football and baseball. So that’s run in my family for several decades.”
In December, Bryan May, a veteran reporter and sports anchor for the station, announced he was leaving after 17 years.
