We stop for food demonstrations at East Sacramento’s Corti Brothers market because there is a good chance one will introduce us to a product we like. Last week, we tried Kissino puttanesca pasta sauce in the store with a piece of French bread and were so impressed we took a bottle home to combine with spaghetti.
Produced in Incline Village, Nev., Kissino sauces come from recipes passed down in a Sicilian American family with the Nevada-perfect name of Casino. The sauces are free of added sugar or preservatives. Made with Kalamata olives, capers and Burgundy wine, this puttanesca sauce offers plenty of snap and spice and a taste that’s notably fresh for a jarred product.
$6.69 at Corti Brothers, 5810 Folsom Blvd., Sacramento. Also available at many Raley’s/Bel Air stores. kissinosauce.com.
