In addition to the inaugural vegan pop-up dinner Saturday by The Roaming Spoon’s Sylvanna Mislang (the dinner promptly sold out), there are two other very inviting private dinners on tap for Sunday — one is small and urban, the other very large and rural.
This is apparently the weekend for foodies to shell out money for cool dining experiences outside their usual rotation of favorite restaurants.
First, there’s “Dirty Feet Dining” featuring three well respected local chefs, Billy Ngo of Kru, Scott Ostrander of Esquire Grill, and Tyler Bond of Enotria.
Bond, the 32-year-old sous chef, is the mastermind behind this idea of a circuit of creative dinners in different locales. The first, this Sunday beginning at 4:30 p.m., is at Twin Peaks Orchard in Newcastle.

The price is $100 for a 5-course dinner with wine pairings, along with a “refresher” course that includes a pomegranate tasting. There will also be a tour of the property prior to the dinner, which will be set within a large packing barn.
“For me, this event is hopefully one of many. I’d like it to be a circuit,” Bond told me Thursday. “It’s an idea I’ve been thinking about for a long time. My goal was to create the best team possible and then to just kick ass.”
In addition to the chefs involved, Matthew Lewis, once the sommelier at Enotria and now proprietor of WineCentric, will be presiding over the wine service. I’ve seen Lewis in action, and it is a real treat to watch him discuss wine in a such an engaging and knowledgeable way. Want him to go deep and esoteric? Just ask.
Bond and Lewis tell me the farm setting is beautiful, especially now with much of the foliage in bright reds, yellows and oranges.
“Even though you are on the farm, we are not going to skimp on luxury,” Lewis said.

Next, we have the ongoing series of dinners by Kevin O’Connor, the young chef who left Blackbird (a few months prior to its closing) to return to his series of Tree House private dinners. I hear they are better than ever. O’Connor’s M.O. is to create a multi-course dinner and then announce the secret location on the day of the event.
This Sunday, it’s different. The chef will be cooking at Revolution Wines for a seasonally inspired winemaker’s dinner at 7 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $90.
Dinner will be seven courses, including wine pairings from this Sacramento winery, along with barrel tastings in the winery’s cellar.
