“This is not a cooking demonstration. This is live entertainment.”
So sayeth chef Robert Irvine, the host of “Restaurant: Impossible” and other Food Network programs, about his show coming next Tuesday to the Crest Theatre. Irvine will be bring his cooking skills and tight black shirt for a high energy show that includes audience participation and see how he fares against spontaneous cooking challenges.
Here are a couple ideas that can be tossed to Irvine during the show:
* Create a dish with local ingredients without saying “farm-to-fork.”

* Slice and dice three tomatoes without flexing your biceps.
* Cook three courses while wearing a chefs’ coat the entire time.
All the while, uptempo music and multiple camera angles will enhance the mood and capture the action closely. That’s right, this show is hardly like the typical French toast demonstration on morning TV.
The show starts at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Tickets cost $40-$60; tickets.com, (800) 225-2277. Tickets can also be purchased at the Crest Theatre’s box office (1013 K St., Sacramento).
