Peet's Coffee & Tea expands its food menu

Peet’s Coffee & Tea, which has been around Northern California since 1966, has just rolled a new line of sandwiches, salads and snacks, to join its lineup of artisanal baked goods. It includes vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. They’re available in all 126 Northern California stores, including those in the Sacramento area

The menu was developed by chef Arnold Wong, co-owner of the family-run Raison D’être bakery in South San Francisco. Prices range from $3 to $7.

Items include herb-roasted turkey with Monterey jack cheese and pumpkin seed-pesto aioli; applewood-smoked ham with Swiss cheese and roasted garlic aioli; super greens and kale salad with feta cheese and fig-balsamic vinaigrette; black lentil salad with feta and red wine vinaigrette; rainbow quinoa salad with chickpeas, roasted red peppers and herb vinaigrette; a “cheese box” of Irish cheddar, Monterey pepper jack and Danish Brie with apples, roasted almonds and organic rice crackers; hummus with carrot chips; and a fruit bowl

Peet’s main competitor, Starbucks, debuted a new line of baked goods in January under the La Boulange brand. Starbucks also intends to roll out a menu of hot and cold sandwiches this fall.
