Back in 1984, Ronald Reagan declared July as National Ice Cream Month, and the third Sunday of the month as National Ice Cream Day. Thank you, Mr. President.
And thank you, Godiva Chocolatier, for adding four-star soft-serve ice cream and Trufflelata shakes to your year-round menu ($6 each) . The ice cream is in three flavors — dark chocolate, white chocolate-vanilla bean, and chocolate-vanilla swirl. Get it on a crunchy chocolate-dipped Belgian waffle cone with or without praline almonds; add chocolate or caramel sauce.
The Trufflelata is a milkshake (but so much more) described as “a luscious truffle (blended with ice and water) finished with swirls of fresh whipped cream and pretty drizzles.” As for flavors: Chocolate Lava Cake, Salted Caramel, Strawberry Crème, Hazelnut Crunch, Milk Chocolate, Oreo Cookie and, through Aug. 27, Mint Chocolate Chip. Flavors will change with the seasons.
We tasted a sampling. In two words: “Seriously wow!”
