“Fried chicken is a quintessential American dish, along with hamburgers, hot dogs, apple pie, barbecue, peanut butter and casseroles,” write the editors at the Daily Meal, the all-things-food-and-drink blog.

That introduction leads to its list of “America's 50 Best Fried Chicken Spots.”

Though Sacramento serves some pretty good fried chicken — Evan’s Kitchen on Antiques Row, Hawk’s in Grantie Bay, Chef’s Table in Rocklin and the Porch in Midtown come to mind — the closest California entries to us are the New Golden Daisy in San Francisco and Ad Hoc in Yountville, in the Napa Valley.

Or you can stay home and cook your own.
