Travelers to and from Sacramento International Airport have another, fresher dining option in Terminal A with the opening of Freshii, a fast-growing chain devoted to healthy on-the-go cuisine.
Fitting in with Sacramento’s farm-to-fork mantra, the new restaurant is part of a $5 million food court upgrade in Terminal A that will include airport extensions of such Sacramento restaurants as Paesanos, Squeeze Inn and Iron Horse Tavern.
Freshii offers a wide assortment of vegetable-packed dishes such as salads, soups, burritos and teriyaki bowls. In addition to many vegetarian options including tofu and falafel, the menu also offers chicken, steak, tuna and egg entrees.
Open from 4 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, the airport Freshii features several hot breakfasts from bacon, egg and cheese pockets, to grilled steak and egg burritos, to apple-topped oatmeal. Its juice bar offers nine fresh juice or smoothie combinations. Frozen yogurt comes with several choices of healthy toppings such as almonds, blueberries, mangoes and strawberries as well as chocolate chips.
Three soups – Asian vegetable, Southwestern and spicy lemongrass – round out the menu, which includes fusion foods such as the seaweed-wrapped “sushiito,” a sushi-inspired burrito.
Expect to see more Freshii restaurants popping up at airports and urban locations. The Toronto-based chain has announced plans to open two new restaurants a week to reach 200 outlets in more than 80 cities in 15 countries by the end of 2015. Freshii has expanded to Miami, Chicago and Houston in the U.S. as well as airport locations in Dubai, Austria, Saudi Arabia, Guatemala and Ireland.
