Where do top chefs in the Sacramento region like to eat?

The most popular answer to that question, according to a recent poll, is Billy Ngo’s Kru.

In its new cover story, Sactown Magazine asked more than two dozen of “Sacramento’s finest culinary artists to reveal their favorite local restaurants.” Some picked a handful of eateries to call out. Others listed more. Answers ranged from the expected to the exotic, with chefs name-checking destination restaurants as well as less-known taquerias, dim-sum spots and pub-food places.

But Kru was definitely the through-line of the package, with 11 of the 25 chefs interviewed singling out the sushi spot with plenty of encomiums. The second most-referenced restaurant? Rick Mahan’s Waterboy (with nine mentions), followed by the Selland Family’s Ella (seven mentions).

Kru’s Ngo participated in the read-worthy round-up, on newsstands now. His go-to spots? The original Chando’s on Arden Way and Viet-Ha on Florin Road and Stockton Boulevard, as well as Formoli’s Bistro, The Waterboy, Magpie, The Kitchen, Ella and Tres Hermanas.
