You never know what you’ll find on the end-cap in a supermarket. A display at the end of an aisle at the Bel Air store in Gold River stopped us in our tracks the other day. Was that really a bag of Kettle brand maple-bacon popcorn? Yep. Three of our favorite things, all in one place.
We brought a bag of the novelty back to Food Central, where six out of seven taste-testers gave it thumbs-up. The popcorn is crisp and not over-salted. Oddly, the flavor is more bacon than maple, though the aroma is more maple than bacon.
The ingredients include maple sugar, dried molasses, chili pepper and “natural flavors including smoke.” It’s $4.29 for a five-ounce bag, which is bigger than it sounds. Find it at major supermarket chains, such as Raley’s. Oh, and it’s gluten- and MSG-free, with no preservatives, which makes it much better.
