One of the best things about Petaluma is the Della Fattoria Cafe Bakery, included in Bon Appetit magazine’s list of the “Top 10 Best Bread Bakeries in America.”

Another is the Artisan Cheese Festival, March 18-20 inside and around the Sheraton-Sonoma County in Petaluma, and at farms in Marin and Sonoma counties.

For the first time, the Sacramento region will be included in the fest, with farm tours March 18. The Capitol Area Tour North will visit the Pedrozco Dairy and Cheese Co., Orland Farmstead Creamery and the Sierra Nevada Cheese Co. The Capitol Area Tour South will make stops at Fiscalini Farms, Nicolau Farms, Nutcher Milk Co. and the Michael David Winery.

The Capitol Area Tour North departs at 8:30 a.m. from Nugget Market in Woodland (157 Main St.). The Capitol Area Tour South departs at 8:30 a.m. from the Sacramento Natural Food Coop (1900 Alhambra Blvd.). Tickets are $135 per person and include lunch and transportation.

The 10th annual festival also will feature a who’s who of cheesemakers, chefs, restaurateurs, brewers, winemakers, farmers, dairymen, ranchers and other experts from California’s culinary world, sharing their products and knowledge. Highlights will include the Cheesemonger’s Duel, “California Cheesin’ – We Do It Our Whey” and the Artisan Cheese Tasting and Marketplace.
