Summer arrived early on the Sacramento River with Monday’s 30th anniversary opening of Crawdad’s On the River, the always-slammed floating restaurant-bar along the Garden Highway.
“We can’t wait to get out on the water and bring life back to the restaurant that has been hibernating for the past few months,” said owner Trevor Shults.
This season, the revelers’ refuge celebrates three decades as an iconic riverfront destination. For starters, the 2.0 menu offers new items such as a whole Passmore Ranch trout served over pasta, and a half-pound burger hand-formed from combined grinds of rib-eye and short rib, on a bun from Boudin Bakery. Look for the classics, too, such as calamari strips, jambalaya and gumbo. Match those with the Mardi Gras cocktail, a classic mix of mango and passion fruit purées, coconut rum and vodka, with a spiced rum float.
Special events will include Easter Sunday (March 27) brunch buffet; the Paddle 4 DART standup paddleboard races on Saturday, June 11, benefiting the Sacramento Drowning Accident Rescue Team; and a 30th-anniversary blowout starring the second annual floating concert series on Saturday, Aug. 6.
