The section of downtown near the Sacramento Convention Center will be swamped through Thursday with folks sporting lanyard badges and talking wine. The Unified Wine & Grape Symposium kicked off Tuesday morning with a keynote speech by Rick Tigner, president of Jackson Family Wines.

More than 14,000 attendees are expected through Unified’s run, a possible record, and will stake its claim as the largest convention to be hosted annually in Sacramento.

Unified is a must-attend for wine professionals, including the “state of the industry” session on Wednesday morning which will run down wine sales, trends and crop report results for 2014.

Drought will no doubt be a hot topic, along with increased competition from around the world.
