America runs on Dunkin’, as the advertising slogan goes. Will Sacramento?

Nine Dunkin’ Donuts stores will open in the Sacramento area beginning in 2019, the company announced in a news release Tuesday. Store locations remain undetermined ahead of the launch.

Ellen and Ryan Hui, a mother-son team out of the Bay Area, plan to open five Dunkin’s under the franchisee group NorCal Grub LLC. The other four will be franchised under Shiva Developments, which operates several Dunkin’ locations in Illinois and the north Bay Area.

Though Dunkin’ boasts 50 stores in California, including Roseville and Folsom locations that opened within the last two years, the Massachusetts-based doughnut empire has yet to expand to the capital city.

Plans for a store at Folsom Boulevard and 58th Street are still on the table, Sacramento Business Journal reported last month, despite little visible progress being made since the announcement in April 2016.

Dunkin’ is continuing to recruit more Sacramento-area franchisees, the company said Tuesday.
