The wait for a Sacramento-area Jewish deli just got a lot shorter.
Solomon’s Deli will open in Davis Commons shopping center sometime in May, the restaurant announced Thursday on Facebook. The long-anticipated Sacramento flagship location is expected to open at 730 K St. later this year.
"Thank you all for your enthusiasm! We’re beyond excited to finally show the community what we’ve been diligently working on!" Solomon’s wrote on Facebook. "Stay tuned here for opening date, this May, we promise! We’re simultaneously working on the K Street location too, but until then, Davis is a very short car, bike, or train ride away!"
The Davis restaurant will replace Hot Italian, co-founded and managed by Solomon’s co-owner Andrea Lepore, at 500 First St. Solomon’s opened a pop-up deli in the Davis Hot Italian for National Bagel Day before the pizzeria closed earlier this month.
Named for Tower Records founder Russ Solomon, the deli’s menu will include matzo ball soup, bagels and lox, and pastrami sandwiches. The Davis location will offer dairy-free cream cheese as well gluten-free bagels and rye bread.
Bubbie’s Love Deli and Catering served schmaltzy salami and chicken livers out of its Citrus Heights location until its November 2017 closure left the Sacramento area devoid of a full-scale Jewish restaurant.
