Man barricades himself in his Foresthill mobile home, sets fire to residence

Placer County sheriff's investigators were waiting to search the remains of a Foresthill mobile home after a man barricaded himself inside and set fire to it Tuesday morning.

“It will be awhile before we can get into the scene,” Lt. Andrew Scott, sheriff’s spokesman, said about 2:15 p.m. “We know there is ammunition inside.”

Until the fire burned down, he said, it would unsafe for firefighters to go in.

The man barricaded himself inside the mobile home on Baltimore Mine Road after Sheriff’s Office personnel tired to serve him with a search warrant.

Scott declined to say why deputies sought to search the residence. The Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team set up a perimeter around the mobile home. and it would have been difficult for the suspect to leave without being seen, Scott said, leading authorities to believe he remained inside after starting the fire.

The man is believed to be alone in the home.

Firefighters are on the scene and no evacuations in the nearby area area necessary, authorities said.
