The blink-and-you'll-miss-it community of Upper Lake, in Lake County, has something new to brag about on Main Street: The Tallman Hotel, a once-creaky Victorian built in the 1890s, has reopened as a 17-room boutique property after extensive renovation. The hotel's 17 rooms, furnished in "rustic chic" style, include eight newly constructed garden suites with Japanese soaking tubs. Nonholiday rates are in the $110-$210 range; for information: (707) 275-2244 or www.tallmanhotel.com. The adjacent Blue Wing Saloon (www.bluewingsaloon.com), redone with the use of historic photos and artifacts, opened a year ago.
