Established in 1961, this 7,000+ acre refuge attracts a range of waterfowl including Canadian geese, mallards, wigeon and sandhill cranes, as well as mule deer and raccoons. The best time for bird watching is from April through May and September through October.
The refuge is approximately 2 1/2 miles SE of Alturas. Signs located at the south end of town.
