1. PRISON GUARD GRADUATION VO/SOT

About 400 cadets training to be prison guards for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation will graduate today from the CDCR Basic Correctional Officer Academy in Galt. The cadets have already been assigned to their new jobs. Efforting soundbites and video.

2. CHP GRADUATION VO/SOT

131 cadets will graduate today from the California Highway Patrol Academy in West Sacramento. Among the graduating cadets are identical twin brothers, and a female Army helicopter pilot from Sanger (Fresno County) who served in Iraq. Efforting soundbites and video.

3. BOND SALE VO/SOT

State bonds for individual investors will be available next Monday and Tuesday, before they are sold to the large financial institutions. These bonds are not specifically for the infrastructure bonds approved by voters last November, but for prior year bond approvals for parks, children's hospitals and other projects. 4. EMERGENCY MEDICAL CERTIFICATION VO/SOT

Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi (D-Walnut Grove) who authored legislation establishing the Emergency Medical Services Authority when he was a legislator says pending legislation to require the state to ensure background checks are conducted for Emergency Medical Technicians may not be necessary and suggests local management is responsible and may be lacking in cases where local agencies have hired people with criminal backgrounds who have allegedly stolen and committed other crimes against patients. 5. WINE JUDGING VO/SOT

The official judging of entries to the California State Fair Commercial wine Competition starts today at the state fairgrounds. 64 professional wine judges will taste over 3,000 entries from more than 660 California wineries for the next three days. Efforting soundbites and video.

Budget Deadline - Today marks the constitutional deadline for the legislature to pass a state budget for the upcoming fiscal year. They have not. The budget must be signed by the governor for the July 1, 2007-June 30, 2008 fiscal year by June 30th of this year.
