On behalf of my constituents in the County of El Dorado and the City of South Lake Tahoe, this is to request that you designate El Dorado County an official disaster area due to the devastating fire in the South Lake Tahoe region that started on June 24, 2007. The County of El Dorado has already issued a proclamation of emergency and asked for state assistance. This fire, also known as the Angora Fire, is currently burning out of control and presents a major threat to the community and environment of South Lake Tahoe and the Tahoe Basin.
Though the full effect of this fire may not be realized until a later time, current estimates (as of early morning of June 25th) are that this fire has already has already burned 235 homes and over 2,000 acres.
Thank you for your favorable and immediate consideration of this request on behalf of my constituents in South Lake Tahoe who are in dire need of state disaster assistance.
Assemblyman, 4th District
