1. BUDGET 31 DAYS LATE VO/SOT

Checks that are supposed to be sent out today for Medi-Cal and other services that include hospitals and other care facilities will not be delivered due to lack of a state budget. Lawmakers in the Senate have met in their party caucuses and the leadership from both parties but say they have not arrived at a compromise on the spending plan that is now 31 days overdue. 2. BUDGET/VECTOR CONTROL VO/SOT

The state's Vector Control association has sent a letter to the governor to be prepared to devote resources this year and in the future to West Nile Virus. The vector control agents say cases in humans and in sentinel chickens and birds are increased from last year, and they are asking for emergency funds to be available for counties such as Kern that have had a particularly large number of cases and for additional funding in future budgets. 3. FOX NEWS PROTEST/GLOBAL WARMING VO/SOT

The Sierra Club, Moveon.org, and others will gather at a Sacramento Home Depot to deliver 40 thousand signatures requesting that the company take its advertisements off FOX News due to what it calls the network's denial of global warming. The activists say if the company cares about the environment it should pull advertising dollars from the FOX network. Efforting soundbites and video.

4. HEALTH EDUCATION GRANT VO/SOT

The University of California Davis will announce the largest grant in the Medical Center's history that will benefit health education. The benefactors will be introduced and the program details announced. Efforting soundbites and video.

Prison Searches The organization that sets standards for state prisons will conduct a public hearing regarding guidelines for searching prison visitors.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is in Sacramento for private meetings.
