1. BUDGET IN SENATE? VO/SOT
With the state budget 51 days overdue, the Senate is set to convene today at noon. The Senate President Pro Tempore sent lawmakers home earlier this month after the budget failed to receive the required two thirds vote. Republican Senators say they want 700 million dollars trimmed from the plan and a supplemental budget bill to stop Attorney General Jerry Brown for suing cities and counties for failing to account for greenhouse gas emissions in construction projects. Efforting soundbites and video.
2. NO BUDGET, WHAT ELSE? VO/SOT
The Senate President Pro Tempore has said until a budget is passed, no bills will be discussed and committee hearings will be cancelled. The Assembly Speaker says business will go on as usual in that house, which approved the budget last month. Efforting soundbites and video.
3. HEALTH CARE COALITION VO/SOT
Members of several unions, senior citizens and Latino organizations will gather at the State Capitol to pressure the governor and legislature to work on healthcare reform. The group says even as the budget impasse continues, healthcare reform must happen this year as the governor and lawmakers indicated at the beginning of this year. Efforting soundbites and video.
