IRAQ BILL UPDATE:

SB-924 BY SENATE PRESIDENT PRO TEMPORE DON PERATA WAS APPROVED 43-32 IN THE ASSEMBLY. THE SPEAKER REQUESTED IMMEDIATE TRANSMITTAL TO THE SENATE WHERE CONCURRENT AMENDMENTS WILL BE APPROVED BEFORE IT GOES TO THE GOVERNOR. DUE TO THE NUMBER OF CASUALTIES INCREASING SINCE THE BILL WAS INTRODUCED, IT HAS BEEN AMENDED TO REFLECT SINCE THEN. THE SENATE IS EXPECTED TO VOTE FOR THE MEASURE THURSDAY.

THE SOUNDBITE BELOW FROM ASSEMBLYWOMAN BONNIE GARCIA RELATES TO SB-33 BY SENATOR JOE SIMITIAN (D-PALO ALTO). IT WOULD PROHIBIT DRIVERS UNDER 18 YEARS OLD FROM TEXT MESSAGING OR USING A LAP TOP COMPUTER ON THE ROAD. IT PASSED THE ASSEMBLY WITH A 62-5 VOTE.
