LIVE:

THOUGH MANY OF THE WILDLAND FIRES IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ARE UNDER CONTROL, THERE ARE STILL THOUSANDS OF FIREFIGHTERS BATTLING BLAZES YET TO BE CONTAINED. STATE AND FEDERAL OFFICIALS ARE ALSO CALCULATING THE TOTAL DAMAGE AND COST CAUSED BY THE WILDFIRES THAT STARTED LAST WEEK.

SUPER: TODAY/ OFFICE OF EMERGENCY SERVICES-MATHER

VO: (:25)

UNLIKE LAST WEEK'S BRIEFINGS WHICH INCLUDED THE GOVERNOR AND CABINET SECRETARIES ANSWERING QUESTIONS AT THE OFFICE OF EMERGENCY SERVICES NEAR SACRAMENTO, THIS MORNING QUESTIONS WERE ANSWERED BY PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICERS. AS OF THIS MORNING, OFFICIALS WITH CALFIRE WERE SAYING THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FIRES HAD BURNED 517,300 ACRES, AND THAT MORE THAN 15-THOUSAND FIREFIGHTERS AND 13-HUNDRED ENGINES WERE STILL ON SCENE AT SIX FIRES.

SUPER: DANIEL BERLANT/CAL FIRE

SOT: (0:14)

SAYS: "WE DON'T HAVE AN EXACT COST, AGAIN OUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY IS FIRE SUPPRESSION. WE DO HAVE THOUGH, UH PEOPLE DEPLOYED AT EACH OF THESE FIRES WHO ARE DOING COST ANALYSIS, BUT FIGURES HAVE NOT COME EXACTLY OUT YET."

SUPER: KELLY HUDSON/FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT ADMINISTRATION

SOT: (0:18)

SAYS: "WE ENCOURAGE FOLKS TO CONTINUE TO CALL THE 800 NUMBER, 1-800-621-3362, TO REGISTER, OR REGISTER ON-LINE AT WWW.FEMA.GOV . IT'S IMPORTANT TO REGISTER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE EVEN THOUGH YOU MAY BE WAITING FOR YOUR INSURANCE INFORMATION TO COME BACK, GET IN THE FEMA SYSTEM AND THEN WE CAN HAMMER OUT THE DETAILS LATER."

VO TAG:

F.E.M.A. PUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICER KELLY HUDSON SAYS MORE THAN EIGHT-THOUSAND PEOPLE DISPLACED BY THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FIRES HAVE REGISTERED FOR TEMPORARY HOUSING, AND THAT GOVERNMENT AGENCIES TO DATE HAVE PAID ABOUT 600-THOUSAND DOLLARS IN RENTAL ASSISTANCE AND HOTEL STAYS.
