4. GENETICALLY MODIFIED RICE VO/SOT

The Rice Producers of California are calling on lawmakers to enact bans on genetically modified rice strains from being grown outdoors to limit the risk of contamination. This renewed effort comes as a study indicates genetically modified rice that contaminated rice produced in the southeastern United States has cost more than a billion dollars. State Employee Holiday - State and Capitol employees are off today in observance of Veterans Day. State employees have 13 designated paid holidays off per year with one additional paid holiday which they may take any day they choose. There are local events commemorating Veterans Day in Sacramento and the surrounding area, but no events are occurring at the Capitol today.

Oil Spill Legislation - Senate President Pro Tempore Don Perata will conduct a media briefing in Oakland this afternoon regarding legislation to fund oil spill clean ups.

GOVERNOR'S SCHEDULE

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has no planned public events. He is in state.

LEGISLATURE'S SCHEDULE

The Senate and Assembly have adjourned for the regular 2007 session. Special session for health care and water is on going. The 2008 session convenes January 7th.
