1. BUDGET HEARING VO/SOT
Legislative Analyst Elizabeth Hill will testify at an informational hearing of the Senate Budget Committee this morning. The Senate President Pro Tempore and Budget Chair requested the hearing after the non partisan analyst released her long term budget outlook earlier this month, indicating the state budget would be 10 billion dollars out of balance for the 2008-2009 fiscal year if something wasn't done. 2. CARBON MONOXIDE HEARING VO/SOT
The Senate Committee on Transportation and Housing and the Assembly Committee on Housing and Community Development will conduct a joint hearing regarding the dangers of carbon monoxide. The informational hearing comes two weeks after the state's first Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week this year. Carbon Monoxide poisoning is the leading cause of accidental poisoning death in the nation, with 210 fatal poisonings in California between 1999 and 2004. Most of those occur in the home. 3. TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION FUNDING VO/SOT
The Transportation Commission will consider establishing guidelines for seeking grants from a two billion dollar portion of the 19 billion dollar highway bond passed by voters in 2006. Efforting soundbites and video.

Senior Scams Assemblyman Dave Jones (D-Sacramento) will join law enforcement and consumer organizations to conduct a seminar for seniors to protect them from financial scams targeting the elderly.

Veteran's Homes The Veteran's Affairs Committee and a budget subcommittee will conduct a hearing on veteran's home construction.
