Merced woman has passion for Halloween decorations

While it’s not uncommon to see Halloween decorations this time of year, it’s safe to say Ramona Gaddy goes the extra mile to get her home ready for trick-or-treating.

Case in point: life-sized replicas of Freddy Krueger and Michael Myers outside her home, in addition to a collection of zombies, ghosts, vampires and other Halloween ghouls you wouldn’t want to meet in a dark cemetery. The display also includes strobe lights and other illuminating effects to help bring it to life at night.

“I enjoy watching the kids. They get so excited when they come,” Gaddy said. She’s decorated her home near Parsons Avenue and Marie Lane since she moved to Merced in 2003.

Her passion for decorating began several years ago while living in Fairfield. She started by putting up Christmas decorations, but eventually moved to putting up displays for Thanksgiving and Halloween.

Gaddy said she keeps putting up her displays because of the joy they bring to others, and the displays increase in size every year. Her grandchildren also come over and help out with the decorating.

“It’s just kind of snowballed,” she said. “Every year I just added more and more.”
