A vehicle with two bullet holes was pulled from a canal Wednesday in Los Banos and investigators are asking for information from the public.
“There was no one inside, but it’s kind of a provocative set of circumstances around it,” California Highway Patrol Officer Lance Velez said.
The vehicle, a 1995 Buick LeSabre registered out of Hollister, was spotted early Wednesday morning submerged in a canal off Cherokee Road, north of Henry Miller Avenue. The Merced County Sheriff’s Department dive team assisted the CHP with the investigation.
Velez said investigators found two bullets holes in the right front passenger area of the vehicle, but no evidence of anyone injured in connection with the find.

It was not known how long the vehicle had been submerged in the canal. The vehicle had not been reported stolen, Velez said.
Officers are trying to contact the registered owner and are seeking information from the public to shed light on the mystery.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Los Banos office of the California Highway Patrol at (209) 826-3811.
