Veterans of Foreign Wars can help with benefits

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9946 has been serving the needs of veterans and their families for more than 62 years and welcomes any veteran whose service included combat or a combat operation. The post serves veterans and the city through several programs. The post can assist veterans in receiving any benefits connected to their service at 1390 Broadway. Save Mart SHARES cards benefit Atwater youth

Save Mart offers a SHARES (Supporting Humanities, Arts, Recreation, Education, and Sports) card to shoppers. When shoppers swipe their cards, 3 percent of each purchase goes to the Atwater Police Athletic League to help support PAL programs for the city’s youth.

Drop off worn-out flags for proper disposal

The Atwater VFW will properly dispose of any flags that are torn, soiled or tattered. Drop off flags at the post, 1390 Broadway. The VFW also holds a Hamburger Night every Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m., and provides wheelchairs as well as walkers at no charge to veterans in need. For more information, call (209) 358-7224.

Help for homeless pregnant women

JMJ Maternity Homes, a faith-based 501(c)3, provides homeless pregnant women with shelter, resources and support services in a nurturing Christian environment. Maternity and resident programs provide shelter and support services to facilitate prenatal and postpartum health, counseling, case management, food, clothing and more. Flea and Farmers Market runs each Saturday

The Merced Flea and Farmers Market runs every Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. behind the fairgrounds, 900 G St. EBT is accepted.

Free legal services offered to seniors

Central California Legal Services Inc. and Merced County provide free legal services to seniors. Clients must live in Merced County, be 60-plus years old and a U.S. citizen. Help the Castle Air Museum Foundation

The Castle Air Museum Foundation is a nonprofit organization and receives no government funding. If you are interested in the hours of operation, special events, guided tours for schools or clubs, or if you would like to volunteer, call (209) 723-2178.

Eyeglasses, hearing aids accepted at many spots

The Merced Breakfast Lions Club maintains a series of drop-off locations for used and unused prescription eyeglasses or hearing aids. Drop them off at the offices of Drs.
