Residents turned out Saturday to see equipment and vehicles Merced County sheriff’s deputies use to keep the public safe.
The sheriff’s vehicle rollout at Merced College was the second time the department has assembled its equipment for the public.
The event was free and included the department’s Robertson R44 Raven II helicopter and its 1973 UH-1H, the Vietnam-era chopper commonly known as Huey.
The department also displayed its 2010 Lenco Bearcat, a tactical armored vehicle used by SWAT officers during emergency situations, along with motorcycles, SWAT vehicles and boats used by the dive team. Members of the department’s K-9 unit were on hand, showing the public the specially trained dogs that deputies use to fight crime.
