Support for mental illness
Merced County’s branch of the National Alliance on Mental Illness holds biweekly support groups for families affected by serious mental illness. For more information, call (209) 381-6844 and a volunteer will contact you within 48 hours.

Phones sought for seniors
The Merced County Area Agency on Aging is requesting the donation of unneeded cellphones for distribution to county seniors age 60 and older. They will only be able to call 911 with these phones. They should have a charger and a battery that will hold a charge. Call (209) 385-7550.

Rescue Mission dinners
The Merced County Rescue Mission will hold free traditional holiday dinners on Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve for those in need. Clothes and toys will be distributed. The group is seeking help in reaching its goal to feed 3,000 Merced County residents. Items can be dropped off from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week at the mission, 1921 Canal St. Dinner volunteers are needed from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Nov. 28 and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Dec. 24, at the American Legion Hall, 939 W.
