CHP seeks help in identifying Winton hit-and-run driver

The California Highway Patrol is asking for the public’s help in identifying a driver who fled after striking a pedestrian near a Winton grocery store last week.

On Tuesday, the CHP released a photograph of the truck obtained from a security camera, hoping the public can identify the people inside.

Ponce Martin Delgado, 25, of Atwater, suffered “moderate injuries” when he was struck in the back by a maroon-colored Ford F-150 pickup truck, the CHP said.

Delgado was crossing the parking lot outside the Mercado Winton food market at 6592 North Winton Way when he “heard screaming” and looked up to see the pickup truck moving east through the parking lot “at a slow rate of speed.”

“Mr. Delgado stated he continued crossing the parking lot when he felt an impact to his back,” the CHP said in a news release.

The truck was last seen traveling west toward Winton Way.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is being asked to call the CHP Merced Area’s 24-hour hotline at (209) 356-2900.
