Parents and coaches of a Le Grand-Planada area youth football group are shaking their heads in disappointment after someone stole their trailer recently, taking about $18,000 in property.

Ben Esquivel, director of Tri-City Youth Football, said someone stole the group’s white 20-foot-long enclosed Interstate trailer from the area of Freemont Street and Brodrick Avenue between 6 a.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Esquivel said the trailer was parked at a tortilla shop he co-owns. The trailer contained the concessions equipment the group uses, along with a generator, tents and other items. The equipment inside the trailer is valued at $8,000 to $10,000, according to Esquivel, and the trailer itself is valued at about $8,000.

None of the group’s sports equipment was inside the trailer when it was stolen. Because of the size of the trailer, Esquivel said, whoever took it needed a heavy truck or pickup in order to pull it.

Esquivel reported the theft to the California Highway Patrol. Officer Jason Schoonhoven, CHP spokesman, confirmed the agency is investigating the theft.

Esquivel said his group provides activities for 180 to 200 children, ages 6 to 14. Whoever took the trailer, Esquivel said, is ultimately hurting the children. “That concession equipment is how we make our money. It’s just frustrating that someone would do that,” he said.

The license plate number of the trailer is 4KN1464, Esquivel said.

Anyone with information about the trailer’s whereabouts can call the California Highway Patrol at (209) 356-2900. Tips are kept confidential and callers can remain anonymous.
