Lights of Love is Tuesday

ATWATER – Lights of Love, the first memorial tree-lighting ceremony to benefit the Hinds Hospice Center for Grief & Healing, will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Fifth Street and Broadway. A reception will follow at the Atwater Women’s Club, 1201 Grove Road. Free. Lights for placement on the tree are available for $10 apiece. Visit for more information.

Hospital collecting toys

MADERA – The Rivera WEB club is collecting gently used books, videos, toys and games for the patients at Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera. The WEB club is made up of eighth-graders who show promise as leaders. All toys will be donated directly to the hospital. Please do not wrap these gifts, as the hospital staff needs to match the toy with the patient. Donations will be collected until Dec. 20. For more information, call (209) 385-6680.

Winter Wonderland

The Calaveras Big Trees Association invites you and your family to the fourth annual Winter Wonderland event, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Dec. 27. Activities include a scenic wagon ride inside the park, crafts for kids, music, hot cocoa, apple cider and cookies. Tickets are $12.50 for adults, and $8.50 for children under 12. New Year’s Eve dance

Club Mercedes will have a New Year's Eve dance from 6:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. Dec. 31 at 569 W. Ninth St.. Music by the Fresno band Force 'Em. The cost is $15 per person. You must be 21 or older to enter. A full beverage bar and snack bar will be available for extra charges. Call (209) 383-9906.

Merced College concert

Merced College Chorale will perform Christmas classics and carols under the direction of conductor Curtis Nelson and feature John Rutter’s “Magnificat” with Jenny Dahman as soloist. World dance classes
